Dr James Browning, Chairman is a former consultant (chief) physician and business unit head of both large and start-up medical device companies. His career has seen the successful development of 4 medical devices from concept to exit within 3 years combined with the personal development of 6 patented surgical technologies. Notable amongst the many business achievements in his career is the successful set up of Gynecare UK Limited, which saw rapid triple digit growth in the late 1990’s.
Professor Neil Graham is a world leader in the scientific study and commercial applications of hydrogels and has generated 80 patents in the field of polymer chemistry. Among his many achievements he was responsible for inventing the Prostaglandin E2 controlled release device which has now attained 85% penetration of the US market for cervical ripening during problematic labour . His work on hydrogels and controlled drug delivery has already led to the establishment of two pharmaceutical companies in the UK, Controlled Therapeutics (Scotland) and The Core Group (now part of CeNeS Ltd).
James Reid, A Scottish “Global Scot” for his work in the international biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, Jim was the Winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Science and Technology for both Scotland and at the UK National finals in 2005.
Jim has been instrumental in the formation and development of more than 10 companies in the sector and has successfully exited from 2 of these companies including the highly acclaimed sale of Haptogen to Wyeth, one of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies, a deal which was shortlisted as the Deal of the Year in Scotland in 2007- 08. Through ChimeraBio, Jim is now expanding his work with early stage Life Science companies in conjunction with his wife Karen, hopefully picking the “winners” of the future in this key sector of the Scottish economy.
Mr Scott Carnegie is a chartered accountant and founding member of Dand Carnegie Accounting Solutions Limited. He is Chief Executive of Teasses Capital, an Edinburgh based venture capital fund, and was heavily involved in the creation of the Dundee-based Discovery Investment Fund. Scott’s sector expertise is wide ranging across food manufacturing, engineering, IT, retail and construction. He also fulfilled a longheld ambition by serving as chairman of Dundee United FC 2002-2007.
